Alright, Spice Girls time. Remember your favorite Spice Girl? Ok. She’s your clothing size now. Pick an outfit out from your closet for HER personal branding session in 2020. Right down to jewelry and shoes. Are the options wild? Sophisticated? Innocent? A bit edgy? Athletic? Totally NOT what you would wear? Great. Bag them up. Bring those options. Don’t even touch them. Change nothing. You might be surprised how much we use from these pieces in your actual session. I believe that deep inside of all of us is a Spice Girl. Sometimes, she comes out on camera. We encourage that. Rawr.

Now, we dress YOU with what you’re comfortable imagining yourself wearing.


With your ideal client in mind, let’s talk about your outfit options + props for your personal branding session.


Keep these general outfit guidelines in mind:

Fitted outfits more than loose or flowy.

Solid colors over patterns.

If you are not changing your branding/logo; pick some apparel colors from your branding / logo.

I love a crisp white fitted shirt.

Black v-neck tops are universally flattering.

If you don’t like a body part, wear clothing options that cover.

Ex: I don’t like my arms, so I opt for longer sleeves on my tops.

Bring hair ties, bright hair clips/combs, jewelry, and at least 2 hats. We may use them, we may not. Simple, colorful, and fun accessories can completely change an outfit.

Put together 3 outfits. Choose mostly neutrals like black, white, tan, navy.

Now, add pops of color.

Add your favorite color. (I add emerald green.)

Change it up just a little. Deep jewel tones are universally flattering. Pastels are a bit of a challenge. Not everyone looks great in pale, pale pink.

Have someone use your phone (no selfies) and take photos of your complete outfits on. You can message these to me. I will talk you through them. We can even make an appointment to video chat.

Time to talk props:

Believe it or not, people want to know about YOU. People buy people, not companies.

People also have a 3 second attention span.

We can use props to tell people who you are in 3 seconds.

It’s time for THE CLOSET BIN (or bag that doesn’t look like a trash bag.)

Put a bin in your closet 3 weeks from your session. Start putting your favorite (inanimate non-living) things into the bin for your photo session.

Here’s what’s in my bin:

#1 TOOLS OF MY TRADE. Bring your work stuff. Woodworking tools. Hair styling tools. Planning tools. Flowers. Fabric swatches. Sewing kit. Paintbrushes.

Plus personal stuff: My favorite agate. The box with my engagement ring in it. (I don’t wear it all the time.) A marble pot with a faux succulent in it. My new straw hat. My new wool hat. (It's PINK!) My favorite ever blanket. My favorite book. My white marble and gold unicorn mug. My favorite false eyelashes. My vintage camera collection. (Ok, that has it’s own box.) My huge flower crown. My watercolors, as used and imperfect as they are. A folio box full of our family photos. Pictures of my mama + grandparents. A beautiful journal and pen. My favorite cardigan. My leg warmers. A colorful straw. A can/glass bottle of my favorite soda. My business cards. My polaroid camera + film. Rocks and shells from our vacations. Favorite tea. Vacation photos. Post cards. Coffee beans. Etc. It’s a big bin. Fill it up. We can possibly create a year’s worth of content from one single session for your brand’s use.


Bring things that shouldn't in the bin. Like, your pets. Your kids. A huge canvas you painted. Your laptop. Favorite chair ever. A box of fresh donuts. Popcorn. Favorite things that are literally outside the box. :)
